If you're always fast to resign, you'll never learn what it takes to win difficult positions. In chess, especially blitz and bullet, what may appear to be a lost game can be won by setting traps and making life hard for your opponent by utilising every piece on the board. You can waste their time by creating complex positions for them to think about whilst keeping your remaining time longer than theirs, ultimately winning on time or forced errors.
In Red Alert, even if all of your power has been killed, you still have the ability to distract, go on commando missions and weaponise your ore trucks. This waste's their time which could otherwise be used to attack your teammate(s).
DistractionOften, all it takes to delay the enemy is a small army of men and/or tanks. They are hard to spot on the radar, and can easily take out a key building or 2. Your opponent will hear "Your base is under attack!", then panic and send all or a large part of their army back to defend. This buys time for your team mate(s) to do more damage.
Commando
Did you know if your single unit attacks a building, your opponent will get no warning? It's possible to kill a CY or more with a single infantry soldier or tank without them even realising! Sneak your unit around the edges of the map into their base to do significant damage. Furthermore, a single tank parked on or near ore refineries can take out one or more trucks, hampering their economy - a common tactic on P4.
Ore Trucks
I've seen many a game won due to the enemy not noticing that their ore refineries have been blocked by ore trucks. If all you have left is ore trucks, sneak them into the enemy base and park them on ore refineries thus blocking their economy. The counter to this is for your enemy to ally you (which pushes your trucks out of their way), if they notice in time. But then you can ally back and rinse and repeat which is very annoying!
Buildings
Your buildings are still valuable even if you can no longer build anymore. They can block the enemy and also take time to kill, wasting the enemy's time. You can also sell a bunch of them and use the men gained to go on commando missions. It can be infuriating for your partner, if you resign early causing your base to explode, in an otherwise won position.
Barracks
If you know you're about to lose your key buildings or power, quickly build a barracks or 2 and engineers. These can get you back into the game should your teammates stay alive, by capturing an allied Construction Yard. Also be fast to click the MCV button before they completely kill your power, so you can rebuild.
Thieves
Those who only play Soviet are unaware of or forget about the power of thieves. If a game looks lost on an ore or Gem map, a bunch of thieves can turn things around by stealing your opponents cash. You can use a chronosphere to quickly drop an MCV in their base followed by barracks and thieves. But my favourite is to build a gap generator over one of their silos, followed by barracks and theives into their silo. This can often go unnoticed for a very long time, meanwhile siphoning all of their funds!
Jeeps
In 1v1, an APC comes hurling towards you and you have no defense. Instead of just watching engineers take your construction yard, build a jeep! They build quickly and only need to kill 1 or 2 engineers to save your life.
The Big Picture
Being unable to build any more is not an inherently good reason to resign, unless your teammates are also finished. Look at the radar to determine your team's chances of winning if you don't resign. Use all of the tactics above to fight until the end, and never resign unless 1 or more of your team agree. Wait for their "gg" before giving up or tell them to "wait!" if you think there's any chance at all of winning.
Very important tactics , especially the jeeps one :)
ReplyDeletethe soviet guys need some too :))
